Ah, we all have a bit of 'pirate' in us don't we? The Monastrell grape is a very popular grape variety on the Spanish Levante coast where it has been cultivated for thousands of years. This grape variety is also known by the names Mataró (in Portugal) and Mourvedre in France.
Ruth de Andres trained as a Chemist in Sheffield and was just about to embark on her PhD when she realised that she couldn’t bear the thought of spending another chunk of her life in a lab, so she returned to Spain and quickly fell in love with winemaking. We're glad she did. The De Andres Sister's wines are produced to overdeliver.
